Sumter County was created by legislation from a portion of Marion County on January 8, 1853. Today, 150 years later, Sumter County is home to more than 54,000 Floridians and that number is growing rapidly. However, Sumter County’s rapid growth won’t change what it is best known for—its sense of community.
Many of Sumter County’s cities are smaller ones with less than 25,000 people. With Bushnell as its County Seat, Sumter County also includes the cities of Wildwood, Oxford, Coleman, Sumterville, Center Hill, Lake Panasoffkee, and Webster. No matter how much Sumter County develops, it will always be home to warm people and weather.
When visiting Sumter County, be sure to see the Florida National Cemetery, the Sumter County Farmers’ Market, and the Withlacoochee State Trail.
