Tips
on Getting Around the City
The
best way to travel between Washington, DC's area attractions
is by using the subway, also known as Metro.
This form of transportation is clean, safe and reliable, and
is used by most of the city's inhabitants. Another mode to
get around is the National Park Service-endorsed TourMobile
tram system. These driven, narrated tours take visitors to
all the major sites in and around Washington, DC with unlimited,
same-day reboarding privileges. TourMobile is highly recommended
for guests with disabilities or groups traveling with a large
number of young children.
How
Far is the Airport?
Washington,
DC is serviced by three area airports. Reagan National (DCA)
is about 5 miles from the White House and is serviced by taxi
($15 per person) and Metro ($2 per person). Washington-Dulles
International (IAD) is about 27 miles and is serviced by taxi
($45 first, $10 additional persons). Baltimore-Washington
International (BWI) is about 33 miles away and is serviced
by MARC
($8 per person) and Amtrak
($30 per person) and taxi ($55 first, $10 additional persons).

Washington Monument
Observation Deck Tickets (Select "Washington Monument")
The
National Park Service allows visitors to reserve tour tickets
to visit the top of the 555-foot tall Washington Monument.
The Washington Monument is located in the center of the National
Mall with panoramic views of the U.S. Capitol building, White
House, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, World War II
Memorial and other national landmarks. Tickets to the top
of the Washington Monument are extremely limited; Congressman
Miller strongly recommends visitors purchase, for a small
processing fee, tickets before traveling to Washington,
DC via the National Park Service's tour reservation system.

Bottled Water and Snacks
Visiting
Washington, DC is fun and exciting, but can also be exhausting.
If you or your family needs an energy boost, Congressman Miller
offers free soda, bottled water and snacks to weary travelers.
Mr. Miller's office is located across Independence Avenue
from the Capitol in the Longworth building, room 1037 (ground
floor).
SECURITY
INFORMATION
When
visiting sites in and around Washington, DC, there are several
security measures in place that may affect your visit. All
persons and bags entering secured areas are subject to search
by security personnel. Prohibited items may include, but are
not limited to:
- Liquids
of any kind, including bottled water, lipstick, foundation,
lip gloss, etc.
- Weapons
and explosives.
- Aerosol
and non-aerosol sprays.
- Suitcases,
duffle bags and large backpacks.
- Knives
of any kind, including razors and box cutters.
- Mace
and pepper spray.
In
addition, Washington, DC is subject to constant security drills
and protests. While these generally do not affect the Metro
subway system, they can cause major delays on area roads and
freeways. Congressman Miller highly recommends the use of
the Metro instead of driving yourself.
