"I couldn’t disagree more with this decision.  This proposal offered a “win-win” for Connecticut and its people as its aim is to preserve both our nation’s history and create needed jobs.  It goes without saying that this application should have been – and needs to be -- approved.  Coltsville’s rich history and important national contributions should make it the ideal candidate for this distinction.  Clearly, this decision needs to be immediately reviewed and reconsidered.”

The Blue Ribbon award is vigorously sought by schools across the nation. Winners must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence; a strong sense of leadership; a clear vision and sense of mission; a high quality of teaching and challenging curriculum; and a strong show of family and community involvement in the school.

9/22/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Funds for Foreign Language Assistance

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that the West Hartford Public School System will receive more than $200,000 over the course of three years under the Foreign Language Assistance Program - Local Education Agency (FLAP-LEA).  These grants are intended for study of less-commonly taught foreign languages.

6/14/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Over $2 Million in Aid for Connecticut Department of Transportation

Washington, D.C. – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that the Connecticut Department of Transportation will receive $2,912,620 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help purchase new vehicles for the CTTRANSIT-Hartford division. This money is part of the $3.3 million Senators Dodd and Lieberman secured for buses and bus-related facilities in Hartford in the FY06 Transportation, Treasury, HUD Appropriations bill.

5/24/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $216,000 In Equipment For Connecticut First Responders

WASHINGTON—Thirteen Connecticut towns will receive equipment worth a total of $216,000 to help improve first responder capabilities, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. The equipment will be provided through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP). The initiative provides law enforcement and emergency responder agencies with equipment to improve communications between local first responders in order to increase efficiency in regional responses.


5/12/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce $2 Million for CT Brownfields Clean-up

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded ten grants to Connecticut communities and regional councils worth a total of $2 million to help them assess, clean and redevelop abandoned, contaminated parcels known as Brownfields. These grants will benefit the cities of Bridgeport, East Hampton, Meriden, Shelton and the town of Sprague, as well as the North Star Center for Human Development in Hartford, the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency in Norwalk, and the Regional Growth Partnership in South Central, Connecticut.


5/11/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $63,000 In Grants to Boost Connecticut Crime Control

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that the Cities of New Britain and East Hartford, Connecticut will receive $37,659 and $25,830, respectively, to combat crime and substance abuse. The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) is intended to boost efforts to combat crime. The cities will receive a broad range of support in terms of training, personnel, equipment, supplies and informational system for criminal justice.

Each year, the American Ambulance Association honors paramedics, EMTs, and other ambulance service personnel who "exemplify what is best about their field". Award recipients are selected by their colleagues and travel to D.C. to attend events associated with National Emergency Medical Services week.

There are six Stars of Life award recipients from Connecticut this year. They are:

Nicole Figueroa of New Haven;
Chris Handel of West Hartford;
Erin McNamara of New Britain;
Deana Peterson of New Britain; and
William Westermeyer of Meriden
