On Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Renowned Riverside Speech against Vietnam War

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) will speak on Sunday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at New York’s renowned Riverside Church. Lee will be the keynote speaker at the United NY Black Radical Congress’ second annual Celebration of the Life of Martin Luther King, Jr, “Festival of Dissent.” At the event, Lee will not only address King’s famous pronouncements, but her own understanding of the relationship between civil rights and peace, as well as how those lessons should be applied to an investigation of the Bush Administration’s role in the overthrow of Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and the war in Iraq.

“Dr. King was a prophet of the gospel of peace,” Lee will say.  “He left us both a message and a road map to follow, and in his honor, and in upholding his legacy, we must challenge the Administration’s foreign and domestic policies and demand peace with justice.”
