STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN BARNEY FRANK

“I thank the people of the fourth district of Massachusetts for giving me another opportunity to represent them in Congress.  Yesterday, Americans voted for change and Democrats now have the responsibility to lead the House in a way that brings back civility and a sense of democracy to the legislative process while advancing progressive values.

“As the current Senior Democrat on the Financial Services Committee, I will be putting my name forward to become the next Chairman now that we will have the majority.  I look forward to working with my colleagues and will be asking for their vote as we organize the House Democratic Caucus.  I also look forward to working with both current and future members of the committee.  I know there will be a great amount of interest in the agenda of the committee, but right now it is too premature to discuss any agenda items that the committee will or will not consider next year.  Now our task is to thank our constituents for the opportunity to lead the House of Representatives.”
