MEDIA WATCHDOG REFUTES RIGHT-WING DISTORTIONS

Congressman Barney Frank released the following statement today.

“In their effort to defend Republicans from their terrible mishandling of the situation involving former Congressman Mark Foley, right-wingers have put forward a distorted, inaccurate account of the incidents for which I was reprimanded in 1990 by the House ethics committee.  The central lie in this account is that I was somehow involved in, or aware of, a prostitution ring that was allegedly operating out of my apartment.  The watchdog group Media Matters for America has done an excellent job of refuting these allegations.

“I am attaching a copy of their analysis, which focuses on the ethics committee’s finding (which was unanimous, following a year-long investigation) that I was not aware that prostitution was taking place in my apartment.  Media Matters also notes that the ethics committee report cast doubt on the extent to which such activity had even taken place.”
