The Republican-passed prescription drug bill doesn’t benefit America’s seniors and the disabled; instead, it benefits big drug manufacturers and insurance companies.  That is why Democrats want to repeal this harmful legislation, and replace it with a bill that works for people on Medicare.  The benefit that Democrats continue to fight for would be:
  • Affordable -- with reasonable premiums and deductibles -- designed to significantly reduce the price of prescription drugs.
  • Meaningful -- with defined, guaranteed benefits -- no gaps or gimmicks.
  • Within the Medicare program -- not a separate privatized plan that lets HMOs make all the decisions about costs and benefits.
  • Available to all seniors and disabled Americans on Medicare no matter where they live -- rural or urban -- or what their incomes are.
The Republican-written Medicare bill breaks Medicare's promise, a promise that Democrats created and defended despite 40 years of Republican opposition.
