Congressman Fattah
Congressman Chaka Fattah is an active, progressive member of the
Democratic Caucus. He is innovative and policy oriented, and is
committed to applying modern, technical and financial approaches to
serving traditional Democratic constituencies.
Project Issues
This office provides individuals interested in opportunities: to
participate in the services and activities associated with the operation
of a Congressional office; exposure to the legislative and
representational processes of the U.S. Congress. Congressman Fattah's
legislative focus is education, community and economic development,
however, he is actively involved in all aspects of the legislative
process.
The Selection Criteria
Congressional Internships are open to full-time and part-time
undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing.
All applicants should have a demonstrated interest in the legislative
and public policy process.
The Selection Process
The selection process for Congressional Internships are highly
competitive. Candidates are selected based on scholastic achievement,
demonstrated leadership, interest in public policy and community service
contributions.
Intern Responsibilities
Researching legislation, preparing meetings; setup; attendance; attending
House committee hearings and markups; observing Floor proceeding;
tracking legislation; drafting constituent correspondence; and other
administrative tasks as assigned.
Depending on experience, special projects
relating to ongoing course study may be designed and pursued.
Congressional Interns will be required to
provide a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Congressional Internships are unpaid but
provide valuable and indispensable Capitol Hill experience for those
interested in all areas of public policy, politics and/or law.
The selection process for Congressional Internships are highly
competitive. Candidates are selected based on scholastic
achievement, demonstrated leadership, interest in public policy and
community service contributions. Depending on experience, an intern
may qualify for a paid position in the office.
How to Apply
All candidates for a Congressional Internship must:
- Submit an updated resume.
- Submit one letter of recommendation,
which must be from a Dean, Department Chair, Faculty Advisor or
Employer.
- Submit a proof of enrollment from an
accredited post-secondary institution.
- Submit a writing sample of no more
than five (5) pages.
