Students from Hernando, Lake and Pasco Counties Nominated for Service Academies


Ginny Joins Hernando County Sheriff Nugent in Congratulating Casey Nugent

 

Washington, D.C., Jul 20 -

U.S. Representative Ginny Brown-Waite (FL-05) today announced that Casey Nugent and Maria Chadziutko have been accepted into the 2010 graduating class of the West Point Military Academy.  Additionally, Tim Ryan has been accepted into the 2010 graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy, and Kellye Denny, Misty Webster and Christina Petro have been accepted into the 2010 graduating class of the United States Naval Academy.  Information about each of the students is included below.

United States Naval Academy – List of Nominees

Kellye Denny, Odessa, Pasco County

Misty Webster, Wesley Chapel, Pasco County

Christina Petro, Central HS, (Marion Military in AL), Hernando County

Kellye Denny is from Odessa, Florida and is a senior at Alonso High School.  Kellye was a varsity member of the track and field team, and also was an active member of the band, the jazz band and the science honors club.  She also served as Senior Class Vice President and was a member of the Beta Club and the National Honors Society.  Through her academic excellence and her volunteer spirit, Kellye has proven herself worthy of the nomination.

Misty Webster is from Wesley Chapel, Florida and is a senior at Wesley Chapel High School.  A varsity member of the swim, basketball and track and field teams, Misty was an active participant in interscholastic sporting events.  An active volunteer in the Special Olympics and a member of the French Honor Society, National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, Misty has also excelled in the classroom.  A dedicated and accomplished woman, Misty will be a benefit to the Naval Academy and make an excellent officer.

Christina Petro is from Spring Hill, Florida and is a senior at Marion Military Institute in Alabama.  An active participant in the Navy Junior ROTC, Christina has been named cadet of the month, a winner of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a decorated shooter on the Rifle Team and the Color Guard Commander.  Christina has also participated in the National Student Leadership Conference and has won a USAA International Foreign Language Award.  Having been involved in the ROTC for many years, Christina’s dedication to her training has prepared her for the rigors of the Naval Academy and will serve her well in the future.

“I congratulate Kellye, Misty and Christina and their families on their remarkable accomplishment,” said Rep. Brown-Waite.  “They will soon join the ranks of distinguished Naval Academy alumnae such as Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, Senator John McCain and Lt. Col. Oliver North.  Their academic success and proven leadership are a testament to their achievements and foreshadow a brilliant future in this honorable path they have chosen.  I am proud to announce their acceptance, as they are exactly the type of future leaders that the United States Naval Academy is looking for.  Kellye, Misty and Christina will make excellent cadets and outstanding officers.”

United States Air Force Academy – Nominee

Timothy Ryan, Clermont, Lake County

Timothy David Ryan is from Clermont, FL and is a senior at East Ridge High School.  Tim has played on the varsity soccer, golf and baseball teams and was named the Outstanding Defensive Player for the 2004-2005 soccer team.  He is a member of the National Honor Society, and served as Club President in 2005.  By his record and his accomplishments, Timothy has proven himself as a leader on the athletic field and in the classroom.

“My congratulations go out to Tim and his family,” said Rep. Brown-Waite.  “His high school record has proven him worthy of admission to the Air Force Academy and will join Academy graduates like Congresswoman Heather Wilson, the Chairman of Hughes Electronics Corporation Harry Pearce and Medal of Honor recipient Captain Lance Sijan.  It is truly a privilege and an honor for me to announce that Timothy Ryan has been accepted to the Air Force Academy.  I know that America’s armed forces can use men and women like Tim in their ranks.  He will make an excellent cadet and an outstanding officer.”

West Point Military Academy – List of Nominees

Casey Nugent, Spring Hill, Hernando County

Maria Chadziutko, New Port Richey, Pasco County (currently attending USMA Prep School)

Casey Nugent is from Spring Hill, Florida and is a senior at F.W. Springstead High School.  Casey is captain of the varsity swim team.  He serves as a Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol and a Vice Corps Commander and Corps Commander in the Air Force Junior ROTC.  Casey is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society, National Beta Club, and a member of the National Honor Society.  Casey is also the second member of his family to enter West Point; his older brother Kyle graduated in 2004.  Casey’s service and leadership, in addition to his academic record, have proven him worthy of selection to West Point.

Maria Chadziutko is from New Port Richey, Florida and is currently enrolled at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.  Maria was a varsity member of her high school track and field and cross country team, as well as a junior varsity member of the tennis team.  Maria has been an active participant in the National Honor Society, Key Club, Teen Court and the Future Business Leaders of America.  After earning fifteen college credits during her high school career, Maria has also taken classes at University of South Florida to help advance her college career and eventually gain a nomination to West Point.

“My congratulations go out to Casey, Maria and their families,” said Rep. Brown-Waite.  “Their high school records have proven worthy of admission to West Point Military Academy.  I know that these students will follow honorably in the footsteps of previous graduates like President Dwight Eisenhower, General Douglas MacArthur, and General Norman Schwarzkopf.  It is truly a privilege and an honor for me to announce that Casey Nugent and Maria Chadziutko have been accepted to West Point.  I know that America’s armed forces can use men and women like these in their ranks.  Each of these students will make excellent cadets and outstanding officers.”
