By
default, AOL compresses .jpg images (most common format for
high color images such as photos) to the .art format. This
can cause pages to display poorly and fuzzy because the compression
to .art format greatly reduces the quality of images and sometimes
will distort them.
Here are
some steps to take if you would like to turn off the AOL image
compression. This will allow you to view .jpg images n their
native format. The steps outlined are for 7.0 version AOL
browsers; where applicable, alternate location of instructions
will be noted.
Turning
off the AOL image compression:
Click
on Settings: AOL Help (My AOL in earlier versions)
on the icon bar across the top of the window and then select
Preferences:
When the
Preference window opens, click the Internet Properties
(WWW) link (WWW icon in earlier versions):
In the
Internet Properties window that comes up, select the
Web Graphics tab:
and check
Never Compress graphics (uncheck the Use Compressed
Graphics box for earlier versions):
Click
the Apply button at the buttom right of the window:
and click
on OK to close the window:
In the
Preference window again, click the Font, Text and
Graphics link (Graphics icon in earlier versions):
Change
the Graphical Preferences to the number zero (JPEG
Compression quality in earlier versions). Click on Save
to close window (click on OK in earlier versions):
Emptying
browser cache:
After
making changes, you should empty the browser cache so it will
not load any previously viewed .art images.
Click
on Settings: AOL Help (My AOL in earlier versions)
on the icon bar across the top of the window and then select
Preferences:
When the
Preference window opens, click the Internet Properties
