Veterans' Affairs
Our veterans have given our nation a gift that can never fully be repaid—they have given us the gift of freedom. And therefore providing benefits to our military personnel, whether they are active duty, reservists, retired, or military spouses, is the least our nation can do to show our appreciation.
During the 108th Congress we succeeded in authorizing concurrent receipt, ensuring military survivor benefits, and strengthening healthcare for our nation’s veterans. Additionally, funding for veterans benefits and services increased by 15.3 percent for a total of $70.8 billion in 2004 – $1.2 billion beyond the President’s request.
There is still more that our nation can do to express our gratitude to these brave men and women and I look forward to continuing to fight on their behalf in the 109th Congress.
