Wild Sky Wilderness

The Challenge

“We have a great tradition of preserving the places that make Washington unique, and the Wild Sky wilderness bill reflects that. Washington state has a long history of bi-partisan work on wilderness in Washington state, and I am committed to passing this legislation to protect Wild Sky. It is the right thing to do for our environment, our economy, and future generations.”

-- Senator Patty Murray

For the past several years, Senator Murray has introduced legislation that would preserve 106,000 acres of wilderness in the Snoqualmie National Forest.

The proposed Wild Sky Wilderness is north of Index, and is only 90 minutes from 2.5 million Washington residents.

Senator Murray has been working to protect the Wild Sky area since 2002, and her legislation has passed the Senate several times over multiple Congresses. Unfortunately, the bill has never passed in the House of Representatives. Senator Murray most recently introduced her Wild Sky bill as S. 152 in the 109th Congress. She plans to reintroduce the bill in the 110th Congress.
