Hoyer Delivers $250,000 Check to Calvert Historical Society for Linden Restoration Project

On March 28, Congressman Hoyer presented the Calvert Historical Society and local officials with a check in the amount of $250,000 which he secured for the Linden Restoration Project in Calvert County. This funding was included at Congressman Hoyer’s request in the federal Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by the Congress last year. Linden is the last urban farmstead on the western shore and the only house of its period in Calvert County. (RELATED LINK)

Hoyer Meets with Maryland Veterans to Discuss Federal Budget

Congressman Hoyer regularly joins leaders from the veterans’ community from across the state of Maryland to discuss issues important to veterans, military retirees and their families. On March 24, Rep. Hoyer met with veterans to talk about the Fiscal Year 2006 Republican federal budget which slashes veterans benefits and increases the fees for veterans enrolling in the VA Heath Care system. Hoyer is pictured here with Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs, George Owings, Post Commander Clif Morvant; and Jim Pritchett, American Legion Southern Maryland District Commander. Hoyer Holds Social Security Town Hall Meeting at University of Maryland

Congressman Hoyer has been very focused on making sure young people understand the harmful implications of President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security. He hosted a Town Hall meeting with students from the University of Maryland in College Park to discuss strengthening Social Security and invited Hans Riemer, Washington Director of Rock the Vote, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing political participation among young people, to participate. Hoyer Attends the 24th Annual Black History Month Breakfast Featuring Civil Rights Crusader Tony Brown

Congressman Hoyer presents civil rights crusader Tony Brown, host of Tony Brown’s Journal on PBS, with this year’s commemorative poster at the 24th Annual Black History Month Breakfast in Clinton. Over 450 community leaders from Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties attended the event to pay tribute to Black History Month and to celebrate the theme, Peace, Unity, Solidarity and Hope. Hoyer Visits Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons

Congressman Hoyer takes a tour of the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons where he toured the new Visitor Center and the headquarters of the Alliance for Coastal Technologies which opened in 2000. Congressman Hoyer has led the effort to secure more than $9 million for the Alliance for Coastal Technologies and the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory. (RELATED LINK)
