ENGEL THANKS VOTERS

Congressman Eliot Engel thanked the voters of the 17th Congressional District for returning him to Congress for a 10th term.

“I want to especially thank the people in the Bronx for giving me 90 percent of their votes. I believe I have worked hard for the district.”

The Congressman said in the new Congress he will work to keep Social Security from being privatized, and to get as better prescription drug program for America’s seniors and fight for a balanced energy policy that weans America off of foreign oil.

With the new Democratic majority, Engel expects to be in a position to do even more for the district. “We can now speak as equals to the Republican President and pursue our programs with the hope of some success," said Engel. Engel is expected to Chair the Western Hemisphere subcommittee of the House International Relations Committee.

“Immigration and Iraq are issues that we will now be able to address with more clout in seeking solutions. I intend to work hard with our soon to be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to get Democratic programs enacted.

“I thank the voters for once again putting their trust in me,” said Engel.
