Engel (D-NY) has cosponsored legislation to increase the monthly commuter benefits to $200 per employee. “As it stands right now, employers can offer $200 per month in pre-tax benefits for parking, but only $105 per month in pre-tax benefits for people who take buses and trains, a gaping inequity that is resulting in fewer New Yorkers opting for public transportation and more traffic, congestion and pollution in our streets,” said Engel.
