Update on Terrorist Attack Plot Against International FlightsOn August 10, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced that, in coordination with law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the United Kingdom, US and UK authorities had disrupted a plot to destroy multiple airliners traveling from the UK to the US. Thus far, UK authorities have detained 21 UK persons in connection with this plot, but the investigation is ongoing to determine whether or not additional conspirators remain at large. Travelers can expect significant delays due to the aviation security alert level being raised to Orange for domestic flights and Red for international flights entering the U.S. Guidance on what is permitted in carry-on bags is available from the Transportation Security Administration. Updates on this crisis will be posted on this page as additional information becomes available. August 21: London Metropolitan Police announce charges in airliner terror attack plot. |
