Emanuel Congratulates Wal-Mart on Rx Drug Program

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) released the following statement congratulating Wal-Mart on its new generic drug program:

            “I applaud Wal-Mart for introducing this new drug program. Reducing the price of prescription drugs for consumers is a step towards helping Americans find some relief from the soaring cost of prescription drugs. It’s time the federal government ends its refusal to provide this same kind of relief to the American consumer. By giving the federal government the power to directly negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies, the potential savings are so large that Seniors would not be forced to pay any money out of their pockets, and the federal government would save $40 billion over 7 years.”
