Eight States Volunteer for Career Advancement Account Pilots
On October 26, 2006, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that eight states have volunteered to test Career Advancement Accounts that workers can use to get needed education and training. Click here for the press release.
Three states (Indiana, Pennsylvania and Wyoming) will conduct pilot tests for statewide use. Click here for more information on these three states’ pilots. Another five states (Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio) will use CAAs to help workers impacted by layoffs in the automobile industry. Eleven Organizations in 10 States Successfully Vie to Carry Out Advanced Manufacturing Initiatives
On October 19, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced 11 organizations that had competed successfully to carry out advanced manufacturing projects.

Secretary Chao Announces Selected Regions Under WIRED Initiative
February 1, 2006, Washington, DC - Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced
a major component of President Bush's Competitiveness Agenda, unveiled last night during the State of the Union Address.
Through the WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) initiative, the U.S.
Department of Labor will invest $195 million in thirteen regional economies.
