Grants and Federal Domestic Assistance

This web page, prepared by the Congressional Research Service, gives guidance and Internet resources on federal grants and nonfinancial assistance, as well as on private foundation funding. The Slide show "Grants Information for Constituents" provides overview and tips, reviews key sources, and demonstrates doing a typical grants request.

Working with Federal Agencies

One of the most important duties that I have as your Congressman is to assist you when you have problems with federal agencies. At times, dealing with federal agencies can be both frustrating and time consuming. While I cannot order an agency to change its rules or act in your favor, my office can act as a liaison and help you with your problems. I have a special page that describes some of the assistance I can provide.

Doing Business with the Federal Government

The U.S. Federal Government is one of the nation's largest purchasers of goods and services and works with thousands of businesses, large and small. If you are a business owner and are interested in doing business with the Federal Government, take a look at this webpage with information prepared by the Congressional Research Service.

U. S. Flags

United States flags that have been flown over the U.S. Capitol may be purchased by contacting my Washington office. You may request, by calling or writing in advance, that your flag be flown for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays and graduations. All orders must be paid for in advance. Please make checks payable to the Ehlers Stationery Account.

Due to recent disruptions in mail service to my Washington, D.C., office, all payments should be mailed to my Grand Rapids office at 110 Michigan Avenue, Suite 166; Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503. Processing and delivery via U.S. Mail takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the flag is flown. Faster delivery via FedEx is available for an additional charge.

Service Academy Nominations

Each year I have the privilege of recommending a select group of individuals for admission to the US Service Academies: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine. Competition for the limited number of appointments is competitive. The best time to begin the nomination process is in the spring of your junior year in high school.

For more information on how to apply for a service academy nomination, please feel free to contact my Grand Rapids office.
