Improvement Grant
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 20, 2006
Washington,
D.C.
– Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-Tenn.)
announced today that the Appalachian Regional
Commission has approved a $250,000 grant to the
Tellico Reservoir Development Agency.
The Appalachian Regional Commission is a
federal-state partnership that works with the
people of Appalachia to create opportunities for
self-sustaining economic development and
improved quality of life.
Funding will go toward construction of
infrastructure improvements at the Tellico West
Industrial Properties in Vonore, TN, and will
support the creation of 300 jobs and attract
about $9.4 million in private investments.
The project includes the construction of a lake
access dock and ramp for boat manufacturers in
the Tellico West Industrial Park. The dock,
which will be owned by the Tellico Reservoir
Development Agency, will allow the manufacturers
to test their products. A new boat
manufacturing plant is also locating to the park
and will create hundreds of new jobs. Due to
the site’s unique location near the Tellico
Reservoir, the park has been an attractive site
to the industry.
In addition to the funds from the Appalachian
Regional Commission, the State of Tennessee has
committed $750,000 from the FastTrack
Infrastructure Development Program, and the
Tellico Reservoir Development Agency will
provide $176, 471. The total project funding
is $1,176,471.
“I am pleased by the commitment of the
Appalachian Regional Commission, the State of
Tennessee, and Tellico Reservoir Development
Agency to this important infrastructure
investment in Monroe County,” said Duncan. “The
community will benefit greatly from the economic
growth that these investments make possible.”
