Senator Coleman made a trip January 8, 2005 to Baghdad where he visited service men and women stationed there. He also met with Prime Minister Allawi and U.S.Ambassador to Iraq John Negroponte. Coleman traveled with Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and other U.S. senators.

Petraeus, an Army lieutenant general, commands the Multinational Security Transition Command in Iraq. He previously commanded the 101st Airborne Division, which was deployed in Iraq from March 2003 until February 2004.

On Tuesday, January 11, Senator Coleman held a press conference with regional and American media in Islamabad. To his right are Senators Mike DeWine and Mitch McConnell.
