On February 28, Senator Norm Coleman met with Forest Lake Mayor Terry Smith in his Washington, D.C. office to discuss the city's transportation needs.

On Monday, February 13th, Senator Coleman chaired a Minnesota field hearing of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations to examine the rising prices of natural gas and its impact on individuals, families and businesses. During the hearing, Coleman heard from local residents including Lucille Olson, who testified about the dramatic impact increasing natural gas prices have had on her monthly budget. In addition to directing this PSI investigation, Coleman has worked extensively in the Senate to secure needed funding for the Low Income Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

At a Senate Homeland Security Government Affairs Committee titled “Hurricane Katrina: Managing the Crisis and Evacuating New Orleans” on February 1, Senator Coleman questioned New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on the root causes of the delay in evacuating the city and the challenges faced by individuals tasked with that responsibility.
