WASHINGTON, DC – – U.S. Representatives Rahm
Emanuel (D-IL), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Marion Berry
(D-AR) released the following statement today in response to news reports that
House GOP Leadership has blocked the FY 2007 Homeland Security Appropriations
bill from coming to the floor for a vote because of a provision in the bill
allowing for the importation of prescription drugs from Canada.
“Once again, the House Republican Leadership has put the pharmaceutical
industry above the needs of the American people. Rather than providing
critical funding to our police and fire fighters, the House GOP are playing
political games by holding up this bill at the request of their friends in the
pharmaceutical industry. When the gavel comes down on the People’s House, it
should not signal the opening of the auction house. It’s time for a
new direction.”
