DeLauro Announces Federal Funding for Empower New Haven

WASHINGTON , D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today announced a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the amount of $300,000 for Empower New Haven.  The funding will be used to further the Compassion Capital Fund Communities Empowering Youth Program.

“This funding will greatly increase access to youth services in New Haven – programs that provide mentoring or a place to go after school and that prevent gang violence and abuse and neglect at home,” said DeLauro.  “Empower New Haven has already reached countless at-risk youth in our community.  This funding will expand their reach and will strengthen the capacity of youth-serving organizations.  I congratulate Empower New Haven for being awarded this competitive grant.”

“This grant enables us to build upon the successes of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy grant previously received from Health and Human Services.  Furthermore, this initiative provides Empower New Haven and our partners the opportunity to foster tighter-knit collaborations amongst youth serving agencies with the end goal in mind of better serving the youth of our city.  Given the societal youth crisis which surrounds us nationwide, we look forward to successfully investing these precious dollars strategically in our youth serving agencies capacity building with the  consequent positive outcomes,” Althea Marshall Richardson, President/CEO , Empower New Haven.
