Congressional Internships

For the right candidate, a Capitol Hill internship can be an excellent way to learn how Congress and Washington work from the inside.

Volunteer interns assist with a variety of duties in Congressman Delahunt's office, from answering phones and greeting visitors, to opening mail and attending hearings.  Most candidates are college students or recent graduates.  It is not necessary to be a resident of the Tenth Congressional District of Massachusetts, but familiarity with Massachusetts is weighed heavily during the application process.

Internships last for a three-month period, usually around the fall, winter, spring or summer academic semesters.  To achieve maximum benefit, most students devote at least twenty hours a week to the office.  Some colleges and universities offer academic credit as part of Congressional internship programs.

Space is limited, so candidates are encouraged to apply at least two months before the desired semester.  An interested student may wish to check with his or her school career service center before coming to Washington to explore housing and other practical considerations.

For information, please feel free to call Congressman Delahunt's Washington office -- or to send an e-mail message.

Congressman Delahunt also offers internships in his South Shore and Cape and Islands offices.
