Service Academy NominationsEach year many young men and women think about attending one of our country's service academies: Air Force, Army, Merchant Marine and Navy. As a Member of Congress, I am able to nominate a limited number of high school seniors for this honor.If you are interested in attending a service academy it is to your benefit to begin the application process in your junior year. This begins by your writing a letter informing me that you would like to be nominated to a service academy. Please note: You not your parents, grandparents or other relative or friend must write and specify which academy or academies you are interested in applying. There is no need however, to send a separate letter for each academy. After I have received your letter I will return a personal data sheet for you to fill out and return to me, instructions for other information I require, and a card to send to the chosen service academy which will inform them of your interest. I will present my nominations to the service academies in the December of your senior year and appointments are announced by the academies the following June. If you are thinking about attending a service academy please write me at the Canton office address. Remember, although a nomination is required for an appointment it is not a guarantee of acceptance by a service academy. I am very proud of the previous outstanding nominees from the 16th district and I hope I can be of help to you if you aspire for a challenging education at a service academy.
