Ralph Regula
The 16th District's Voice in Congress

Ralph Regula represents Ohio's 16th Congressional district which includes Stark, Wayne and portions of Ashland and Medina Counties in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected to the House in 1972, Regula currently serves in several key senior positions including Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and Chairman of its Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), Education and Related Agencies Subcommittee, as well as dean of the Ohio delegation.

The Labor, HHS Appropriations Subcommittee funds the largest domestic spending bill in the Congress. It provides more than $140 billion in annual appropriations to three major cabinet departments responsible for supporting biomedical research through the National Institutes of Health, health protection programs through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the No Child Left Behind Act, education for the disabled, and job training initiatives among many others. During his tenure as the subcommittee's chairman, Regula has promoted programs to improve teacher quality and student success in order to prepare today's students for tomorrow's global economy. Additionally, he has worked to make the provision of our nation's health care seamless by removing roadblocks between state and federal public health leaders and local hospitals and physicians so they are best prepared to serve the public in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

Prior to chairing the Labor, HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, Regula led the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee from 1995-2000. During his tenure on the subcommittee Regula funded the historic redevelopment of the Ohio and Erie Canalway and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He allocated significant funding for maintenance of the national park system and other federal lands to ensure a positive visitor experience to these national treasures.

Regula served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, attended Mount Union College on the G.I. bill and began his career as a teacher and principal while attending the William McKinley School of Law at night. Upon completion of his degree, Regula opened his own law practice. Before being elected to Congress, Regula served on the Ohio Board of Education, in the Ohio House of Representatives and in the Ohio Senate.

Regula has dedicated his career to helping the people in his district and the nation. He believes the federal government should provide a helping hand to those in need, opportunity for education and job training for those seeking to improve their skills in the global economy and minimal regulatory intervention in the daily lives of Americans.

Regula returns home to his Ohio farm every weekend where he and his wife Mary have lived for more than 50 years. They have three children and four grandchildren who all live nearby.
