Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo holds the distinction of being the first woman in Guam's history to be elected as Delegate to Congress in 2002 and twice as Lieutenant Governor in 1994 and 1998. |
Congresswoman Bordallo also served as a Senator in the 16th, 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd Guam Legislatures. In all, she has contributed over 40 years of public service to the people of Guam.
In Congress, the Congresswoman serves the House Armed Services Committee, and within the committee, on the Subcommittee on Readiness and the Subcommittee on Total Force. She also serves on the House Resources Committee which is the committee of jurisdiction for territorial issues, and is a member of the subcommittee on Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife and Oceans, and on National Parks, Recreation, and Public Lands. Finally, she is a member of the House Committee on Small Business which has oversight responsibility for legislation that affects the small businesses of the nation and the U.S. Small Business Administration, and serves on the Subcommittee on Workforce, Empowerment, and Government Programs.
In addition to her committee responsibilities, the Congresswoman serves on a number of caucuses including the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, the U.S.-Philippines Friendship Caucus, the Korean Caucus, the Army Caucus, and the Navy/Marine Corps Caucus, the Travel and Tourism Caucus, and the Women's Caucus.
Congresswoman Bordallo holds the distinction of being the island's longest serving Committeewoman to the Democratic National Committee having been first elected in 1964. From 1995 to 2002, as Lieutenant Governor of Guam, she served as the Chair of the Base Realignment and Closure Steering Committee, Chair of Centennial Task Force, Chair of Vision 2001, and Chair of the Guam Beautification Task Force.
Congresswoman Bordallo was the First Lady of Guam from 1975 to 1978 and 1983 to 1986 during the two gubernatorial terms of her late husband, Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo. Along with her official responsibilities through the years, the Congresswoman has always made time to devote her energies and talents to many civic organizations including the Guam Lytico-Bodig Association, the American Red Cross, and the Guam Women's Club.
Congresswoman Bordallo has resided in Guam since 1948. She was a graduate from George Washington High School in 1951. She earned her Associates Degree in Music from Saint Catherine's College in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1953. She has a daughter, Deborah, and a grand-daughter, Nicole.
