Congressman Albert R. Wynn represents the 4th Congressional District of Maryland, which includes parts of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.

He defines his mission in Congress as helping to expand economic opportunity for all Americans.

Elected in 1992, Rep. Wynn currently serves on the powerful and prestigious Energy and Commerce Committee, where he is a member of the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality, the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, and the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Waste. The Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues, including telecommunications, trade, utility regulation, energy, health, securities and biotechnology. Rep. Wynn is a member of the Democratic Message Group, and a Deputy Democratic Whip (a party organizer in Congress.) Wynn also Chairs the Congressional Black Caucus Task Force on Campaign Finance Reform, and the Caucus Minority Business Task Force.

Congressman Wynn is a known advocate for federal employees and small business development. Throughout his tenure in Congress, Wynn has fought to protect the salaries and benefits of federal employees. He also has led efforts to end discrimination in the federal workforce. Wynn has co-sponsored important legislation on increasing the minimum wage, job training and increasing access to child care.

During the 105th Congress, Wynn successfully passed legislation to improve federal contracting opportunities for small and minority businesses. Recently, during the 107th Congress, Wynn introduced additional contracting legislation. As a result of his many efforts on behalf of small businesses, for the second time, he received the Small Business Administration Administrator s Leadership Award.

In his community, Rep. Wynn sponsors an annual job fair, federal procurement fair/ business expo, a college financial aid workshop, and a student leadership workshop. He also coordinates food distributions for the less fortunate every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Rep. Wynn received his B.S. in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973. After a year of graduate study in Public Administration at Howard University, Wynn entered Georgetown University and earned his law degree in 1977. Following graduation, he became Director of the Prince George's County Consumer Protection Commission. In 1982, he started the law office of Albert R. Wynn and Associates. That same year, Wynn was elected to the Maryland Legislature, where he served a decade, first as a member of the House of Delegates and later in the Maryland Senate, where he was also Deputy Majority Whip.

Rep. Wynn is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and attends Maple Springs Baptist church. He is married to Gaines Clore Wynn, and together they have a blended family of two daughters, Gabrielle and Meredith. Mrs. Wynn is an accomplished artist and has been featured in Who's Who in American Art for her artistic achievements. The family resides in Mitchellville.
