Congressman Brad Sherman (D-California) serves on Committee on International Relations, its Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific and its Subcommittee on International Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Human Rights, where he is Ranking Member.

He also serves on the Committee on Financial Services, its Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, its Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and its Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade. In addition to his work on these committees, he serves on the Committee on Science, its Subcommittee on Space and its Subcommittee on Research.

First elected to Congress in 1996, Sherman advocates for fiscal responsibility, a balanced budget, federal aid to education, support for working families, strong environmental protection standards and trade policies that expand U.S. exports. He has worked to preserve environmentally sensitive lands, create a fair tax code, increase penalties for corporate fraud and protect Social Security and Medicare. His leadership has secured funding for school construction, transportation projects, health care and recreation facilities in his district.

Before his election to Congress, Sherman practiced tax law and chaired the California State Board of Equalization, an agency that supervises tax administration practices.
