Congressman Mike Ross (D-Arkansas) serves on the Agriculture Committee, its Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management and its Subcommittee on Livestock and Horticulture, where he is Ranking Member. |
He also serves on the Financial Services Committee, its Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises and its Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. And in 2004, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Whip of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition.
First elected to Congress in 2000, Ross has focused on reducing the national debt, preserving Social Security and Medicare, protecting family farms and preventing corporate fraud. He has worked to provide safety nets for struggling farm families, increase penalties for corporate greed, promote safe working conditions for workers, increase the minimum wage, fund interstate highway projects and maintain adequate funding for Social Security and Medicare.
Before his election to Congress, Ross held membership with the Nevada County Quorum Court and served in the Arkansas Senate for six years. He and his wife own a pharmacy and home medical equipment business.
