Brad Miller is North Carolina's first representative to its thirteenth and newest Congressional District — a district that stretches from the state's capitol, Raleigh, along the Virginia border counties to Greensboro in the state's piedmont region.

Elected in November of 2002, Rep. Miller serves on the Committees on Financial Services, Science, and Small Business. Noting that North Carolina's economy is in a tough transition, Miller sought committee assignments that would help shape the emerging financial services, research and technology industries in the thirteenth district and would help support the backbone of the state's economy: small business.

Over the last decade, Miller has devoted his life of civic service to strengthening North Carolina's public school system — serving one term in the state House and three terms in the state Senate. As a state legislator, he consistently supported the General Assembly's efforts to increase teacher pay across the state, reduce class size and improve rural North Carolina's access to computer technology and the Internet. He was a strong supporter of North Carolina's Smart Start early education program and character education in public schools.

Born in 1953, Rep. Miller was raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His mother Margaret was a cafeteria bookkeeper for the public schools and his father Nathan was the branch manager of the local post office.

Miller is a product of North Carolina's public schools, attending Terry Sanford Senior High in Fayetteville and later the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate studies. He also holds a masters degree from the London School of Economics and a law degree from Columbia University.

Brad and his wife of 21 years, Esther Hall, live in Raleigh.
