Internships with Congressman Jones’ office provide a valuable opportunity to learn about the functions of the House of Representatives, as well as Congressman Jones’ role in representing the 3rd Congressional District of North Carolina.
An internship with Congressman Jones presents a variety of unique opportunities to participate and actively aid in the daily operations of a Congressional office. Internship opportunities are available either in the Washington D.C. office or the District Office in Greenville.
General intern responsibilities include:
- Answering telephones
- Data entry
- Responding to constituent requests and letters
- Attending Congressional hearings
- Assisting with legislative research
- Assisting with constituent casework (Greenville office)
Intern applicants are college students usually in their junior or senior years and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. Some previous general office experience is required. The atmosphere of a congressional office can be highly demanding, and a professional manner is expected at all times.
Internships are unpaid, but arrangements can be made for the student to receive credit for their internship through their school or university. While internships are available on a limited basis year around, summer is typically preferred and the most popular time for applications. Due to confined office space, the number of interns per month is limited to 2 and internships are for a period of 1 month.
Interested students should complete and return the intern application form, available online, along with an updated transcript, resume, a writing sample, and two letters of recommendation by March 1. Those wishing to intern in the Washington, D.C., office should mail all materials to the D.C. office. Those interested in interning in the Greenville office should mail this information to the Greenville office.
