Veterans Honor Congressman Hoyer

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer was named one of the American Legion’s “Unsung Heroes” of the 108th Congress last evening. National Commander John Brieden presented Rep. Hoyer with the organization’s Unsung Hero Award during the Legion’s 44th Annual Washington Conference on Capitol Hill. A delegation of Maryland Legionnaires joined Rep. Hoyer and the elected leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization.

Rep. Hoyer Fights to Protect Maryland Manufacturers

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today signed a petition in the House of Representatives that would force the House to vote on a bipartisan plan to immediately help American manufacturers avoid billions of dollars in WTO trade sanctions and tariffs on their goods, which started on March 1.

Brandywine Volunteer Fire Department To Receive Federal Grant For New Equipment

WASHINGTON - The Brandywine Volunteer Fire Department will receive a federal Fire Grant in the amount of $57,564 under the program area of Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety. As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Congressman Hoyer was very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments in Maryland and across the country buy equipment and provide adequate training.

Hoyer Encourages Eligible Maryland Farmers to Sign Up for Crop Insurance Cost-Share

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer announced today that federal funds he helped secure in the fiscal year 2004 Omnibus Appropriations bill could benefit Maryland farmers. Farmers who sign up for crop insurance by March 15 will benefit from an additional cost-share incentive authorized by Congress. The federal funds will be used to pay 15 percent of the producers’ net premium at the 70 to 85 percent coverage levels.

Rep. Hoyer Presents $100,000 in Federal Funds to YMCA Camp Letts Residential Camp

EDGEWATER - Congressman Steny Hoyer today visited YMCA Camp Letts Residential Camp to present them with $100,000 in funds that he secured in a major federal funding bill passed by Congress in late January. Rep. Hoyer was joined by Scott Peckins, Vice President and Executive Director of YMCA Camp Letts and Metropolitan Washington YMCA President Angie Reese-Hawkins, as well as volunteers from Camp Letts. Congressman Hoyer released the following statement following his visit.

Rep. Hoyer Attends 23rd Annual Black History Month Breakfast Featuring Leon Harris

WALDORF, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer attended the 23rd Annual Black History Month Breakfast in Waldorf on Saturday where he was joined by Senator Paul Sarbanes, and Leon Harris, news anchor for WJLA Channel 7, who gave the keynote address. Over 400 community leaders from Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties attended the event to pay tribute to Black History Month and to celebrate the theme, African Americans Reaffirming Our Culture.

Hoyer Receives High Marks from National Environmental Organization

WASHINGTON, DC - The League of Conservation Voters, a national bipartisan organization devoted to educating citizens about the environmental voting records of federally elected officials, this week released their annual Congressional Scorecard for the first session of the 108th Congress. The LCV has published a National Environmental Scorecard every Congress since 1970, the year it was founded by leaders of the environmental movement following the first Earth Day. Congressman Hoyer received a score of 85%. The national average was 46 percent for members of the House of Representatives and 79 percent for House members from Maryland.
