Hoyer Applauds Recommendation for New Hubble Telescope Servicing Mission

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today after the National Academy of Sciences Committee on the Assessment of Options for Extending the Life of the Hubble Space Telescope released their interim report recommending a new manned servicing mission to repair and extend the life of the Hubble Space Telescope. The Academy conducted their assessment at the request of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Hoyer Fights to Lower Cost of Prescription Drugs for Seniors

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today signed a petition to force the full House of Representatives to consider a common sense proposal that would give the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) the power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices on behalf seniors enrolled in Medicare. This provision was eliminated from the Republican Medicare legislation signed into law at the end of last year. This petition would also guarantee that HHS offer at least one nationwide Medicare-administered prescription drug benefit.

Hoyer Announces Federal Funds to Sustain Agriculture in Prince George’s County

Washington, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the House of Representatives has passed the Agriculture Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2005, which includes significant federal funds for a number of programs that will benefit Prince George’s County and the state of Maryland. In particular, the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) will receive close to $7.7 million in additional Federal funds for research initiatives that the President had proposed for elimination in his Fiscal Year 2005 budget. Rep. Hoyer, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, took a lead role in securing the funding for these important projects.

Washington, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the House of Representatives has passed the Agriculture Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2005, which includes significant federal funds for a number of programs that will benefit Southern Maryland. Rep. Hoyer, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, took a lead role in securing the funding for these important projects which were not included in the President’s budget for fiscal year 2005.

Hoyer Congratulates Winner of Congressional Arts Competition

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D, MD) congratulated Jen Spann today as the winner of the 5th Congressional District High School Congressional Arts Competition. Spann visited the Capitol today to meet with Congressman Hoyer and she participated in events on Capitol Hill to recognize the talented young artists who won similar competitions in other Congressional districts. Hoyer Releases Judy Center Evaluation

HOWARD COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today released the Judith P. Hoyer Early Care & Education Enhancement Program Evaluation and discussed the results of the study at a press conference at the Cradlerock School Judy Center in Columbia, which included special guest State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick. Congressman Hoyer worked to establish "Judy Centers," early education centers for young children, which are named after his late wife and educator Judith P. Hoyer. There are currently 24 Judy Centers across the state of Maryland.

Hoyer and Blackwell Announce Initial Funding for New Federal Grant Program for Fire Departments

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer and Prince George's Fire Chief Ronald Blackwell were joined by Professional Firefighters of Maryland President Leroy Wilkison and Maryland State Fireman's Association President Robert Jacobs today celebrated the addition of $50 million to the House version of the fiscal year 2005 Homeland Security Appropriations bill, approved in the House of Representatives last month, for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Firefighters or, Making Fighting Fires SAFER Program.
