Indian Head to Receive $23 Million in Completed Defense Bills

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2005 Military Construction Appropriations and Defense Authorization Conference Reports today that provide funds for two projects important to Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center and Charles County. Only one of these projects was included in the President's fiscal year 2005 budget, the other was added to the bills at the request of Congressman Hoyer.

Hoyer Delivers $40 Million for VXX Presidential Helicopter Program To Be Located at Pax River

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the fiscal year 2005 Defense Authorization and Military Construction Appropriations Conference Reports, providing $40 million to begin construction on a new facility at Patuxent River Naval Air Station to house the Marine Corps' Presidential Helicopter Replacement Program. The Defense Authorization Conference Report also directs the U.S. Navy to expedite a land transfer of 5 acres to the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Capital Area Food Bank to Receive Federal Funds

WASHINGTON, DC – Representatives Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Tom Davis (R-VA), Frank Wolf (R-VA), Jim Moran (D-VA), Albert Wynn (D-MD), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), released the following joint statement today announcing that at their request, the District of Columbia Appropriations Conference Report for FY 2005, approved by the House of Representatives yesterday, included $300,000 in federal funds for the Capital Area Food Bank.

Regional Representatives Secure Funds for Whitman-Walker Clinic

WASHINGTON, DC - Representatives Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Frank Wolf (R-VA), Jim Moran (D-VA), Albert Wynn (D-MD), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and John Sweeney (R-NY) released the following joint statement today announcing that at their request, the District of Columbia Appropriations Conference Report for FY 2005, approved by the House of Representatives today, included $600,000 in federal funds for the Whitman-Walker Clinic (WWC), a nationally recognized non-profit health care provider of HIV care and social services.

Hoyer Recognizes Fire Prevention Week By Urging Families to Install and Check Smoke Alarms

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Hoyer today joined First Alert, in conjunction with the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI), to donate thousands of dollars worth of smoke alarms to the District of Columbia Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department. These smoke alarms will be given free of charge to DC homeowners as part of an ongoing Smoke Alarm Give Away Program.

Hoyer Celebrates Greenbelt District Courthouse 10 Year Anniversary

GREENBELT, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today visited the Greenbelt District Courthouse to celebrate its 10 year anniversary. Hoyer sponsored the legislation which created the Southern Division in the Judicial District of Maryland, and he secured the nearly $40 million in federal funds to build the courthouse in Greenbelt, bringing over 300 jobs to Prince George’s County. Hoyer Joins CDC VERB Campaign to Talk With Kids About Staying Fit, Eating Healthy

BELTSVILLE, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined the VERB Campaign to promote physical activity among students. VERB, a campaign being run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), brought its nationwide tour to Beltsville’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. The 16-week, nearly 100-city tour across the United States inspires children to get active by highlighting fun physical activities, such as basketball, skateboarding, soccer and dance. Congressman Hoyer also discussed recent legislation he introduced in Congress to promote school-based programs to reduce and prevent childhood obesity, increase physical activity, and help students make good nutritional choices.

Congressman Hoyer Salutes the Memory of Fallen Firefighters with Survivors this Weekend

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steny Hoyer issued the following statement today in recognition of the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend held in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Tomorrow morning, Congressman Hoyer will read a remembrance tribute at the 23rd Annual National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy Campus in Emmitsburg. Chief R. David Paulison, the Administrator of the U.S. Fire Service Administration will give the keynote address at the memorial service. The families of Maryland Fallen Firefighters Nadar Hammett of Largo, William Thomas from Stevensville, and Thomas Brown of Towson will be in attendance.
