Hoyer Recognized for Leadership in Environment and Preservation by Accokeek Foundation

WASHINGTON DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer was honored by the Accokeek Foundation last evening at its Leadership Salute Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, DC. The nonprofit Accokeek Foundation, based in southern Prince George's County recognized the Congressman's record of achievement in environmental conservation and education issues with its National Conservation Leadership Award.

Hoyer Meets With CBIRF Troops at Indian Head

CHARLES COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today visited Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center to meet with Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) troops following a ceremony to name the Training Facility after Ray Downey, a Marine and New York City Firefighter who died on September 11, but who worked to develop the CBIRF concept.

Hoyer Announces COPS Grants for Charles County and Hyattsville Police

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today announced that the City of Hyattsville and Charles County have been awarded school safety resource grants to assist local law enforcement agencies by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Secure Our Schools program which provides funds to improve security at schools an on school grounds. Hoyer has been a strong supporter of the COPS Program in Congress which has provided 908 new officers to the 5th Congressional District.

Hoyer Celebrates the 5th Annual Patuxent Wildlife Festival

LAUREL - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined friends of the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center to celebrate the 5th Annual Patuxent Wildlife Festival. Festivities included live animal demonstrations, research exhibits, wildlife conservation tram tours, trail walks, and children's activities. In addition, there were research demonstrations and behind-the-scenes tours of the normally-closed U.S. Geological Survey's Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Congressman Hoyer gave the following remarks at the Anniversary Ceremony, as prepared for delivery.

Hoyer Launches New NOAA National Center for Weather and Climate Prediction

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today joined the University of Maryland and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to launch the new Operations and Science Center for Weather and Climate Prediction to be located in the new research park, M-Square, in College Park.

Legislation Introduced by Hoyer to Expand Fire Grant Program Agreed To in House

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that legislation to reauthorize the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program was included in the Defense Authorization Conference Report which passed in the House of Representatives today. As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Rep. Hoyer has been very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments buy equipment and provide adequate training.

Hoyer Succeeds in Funding Firefighter Program

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today announced that $65 million for the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Firefighters (SAFER) Program and $650 million for the Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program was included in the fiscal year 2005 Homeland Security Appropriations Conference Report. As a co-chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Hoyer helped establish and fund both of these federal grant programs to assist fire departments across the country.
