Hoyer Makes Visit to Pentagon to Meet with Top Officials

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today after meeting with some of the top officials at the Department of Defense. This is another in a continued series of visits Congressman Hoyer has made to the Pentagon to meet with officials to discuss the military installations he represents within the past year. Hoyer has conducted these meetings to educate Pentagon decision makers on the important work conducted at Pax River, Indian Head and St. Inigoes and to talk with them about specific issues of concern to our military installations.

Hoyer Announces Funds for Retirement Communities in Maryland

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report over the weekend which included $1 million in federal funds for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC) Initiative. The Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report includes nine of the thirteen appropriations bills for fiscal year 2005. The Senate also passed the Conference Report, sending the bill to the President's desk.

Hoyer Delivers for 5th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer announced that the House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report which included federal funds for programs and projects that will benefit the 5th Congressional District. The Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report includes nine of the thirteen appropriations bills for fiscal year 2005. The Senate is expected to pass the Conference Report as well, sending the bill to the President's desk.

Hoyer Applauds House fo Supporting Pay Parity

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today applauding the inclusion of a 3.5 percent pay raise for federal employees in the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report. This provision provides civilian federal employees and military employees with the same pay adjustment, following a long-standing Congressional principle known as "pay parity." Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department To Receive Federal Grant For New Equipment

WASHINGTON - Congressman Hoyer announced today that the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a federal Fire Grant in the amount of $76,167 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Caucus, Congressman Hoyer was very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments in Maryland and across the country buy equipment and provide adequate training.

Hoyer Cuts Ribbon at Abilities Network and Epilepsy Foundation Regional Office in Charles County

CHARLES COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined Lee Kingham, Executive Director of the Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region and Abilities Network and Travis Nichols, Program Director for Charles County to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region and the Abilities Network's new regional Southern Maryland office in La Plata. The Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region is the local Epilepsy Foundation affiliate, which serves Maryland and Northern Virginia. Their sister organization, Abilities Network, provides developmental disabilities services for children and adults.

Hoyer Spends Veterans Day in Southern Maryland

SOUTHERN MARYLAND - Congressman Steny Hoyer released the following statement today after joining Veterans from Southern Maryland at the Annual Leonardtown Veteran’s Day Parade. Hoyer will also be the keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Spaghetti Dinner at Christ Church in Wayside to show his deep gratitude for the bravery and sacrifice of Maryland’s Veterans.

Hoyer Breaks Ground for New FDA Facility at White Oak

SILVER SPRING, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined Senator Paul Sarbanes, Congressman Chris Van Hollen and Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan to break ground at the new FDA Central Shared Use (CSU) Building which will provide essential support services for employees on the White Oak Campus. When this building is completed, there will be approximately 2,000 FDA employees on the site.
