Hoyer Announces Contract Awarded to Remove Obstruction in St. Jerome Creek

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit Contracting Office last week awarded the contract to remove the St. Jerome Creek Light 4, a channel marker that was ruined during Hurricane Isabel, to Williams Marine Construction of Lusby, MD. Following the hurricane, a piece of metal remained hidden under the water creating a navigational hazard. The contractor indicated that they should have it removed by mid-January.

Hoyer Announces Federal Funds for Emergency Food and Shelter Program in Maryland

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer today announced that Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties have been awarded a total of $569,027 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter (EFS) Program.

Hoyer Applauds Complete Acquisition of Lexington Manor Properties

ST. MARY'S COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined local and state officials in Lexington Park to announce the Completion of Acquisition of the Lexington Manor Properties. This year, Congressman Hoyer secured $242,500 in federal funds to help purchase the Lexington Manor Properties. The total federal contribution for this project was $738,000, in addition to $2.7 million in Federal Community Development Block Grant Program funds.

Congressman Hoyer Tours Arson Damage at Hunters Brooke Development

CHARLES COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today after visiting the Hunters Brooke subdivision off Hawthorne Road near Indian Head, Maryland to view the arson damage, to be briefed by the local, state and federal officials at the scene on the extent of the damage and the ongoing investigation, and to offer his assistance. Hoyer was escorted through the development by Charles County Sheriff Fred Davis.

Hoyer Applauds Federal Funds for Maryland's 'Troops to Teachers' Program

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Hoyer today applauded the award of a $2 million federal grant to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for a project designed to improve teacher mobility. MSDE's Troops to Teachers Program received the three-year grant aimed at eliminating some of the barriers to certification reciprocity that military career changers face when they begin searching for teaching careers in public schools.

Hoyer Breaks Ground for National Harbor

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined federal, state and local officials for the groundbreaking of National Harbor and Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on the Potomac River. National Harbor is a mixed-use community being developed over seven million feet along the Potomac River.

Hoyer Announces Transportation Research Funds for UM

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer today joined Dr. Nariman Farvardin, Dean of the Clark School of Engineering, to announce the awarding of $700,000 to the Center for Intermodal Freight Transportation Mobility and Security. The Center is a new joint collaboration between the University of Maryland and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Congressman Hoyer secured the funding in the federal Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by the Congress on November 20.
