Hoyer Breaks Ground at BARC to Rebuild Greenhouse

BELTSVILLE, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today joined Beltsville Agricultural Research Center Director Dr. Phyllis Johnson, and federal, state and local officials to break ground to rebuild the greenhouses at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC). Congressman Hoyer secured approximately $7 million in federal funds to help restore the greenhouses at BARC.

Hoyer Joins BPW to Recognize Women of Achievement in Prince George’s County

GREENBELT, MD - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) today joined the Southern Prince George’s Chapter of Business and Professional Women (BPW) at their 3rd Annual Women of Achievement Awards Breakfast. Congressman Hoyer has been a member of BPW for more than 20 years and discussed the ways he will be working to improve the lives of women and families by fighting in the 109th Congress for issues that promote fairness in the workplace, make health care more affordable and support working families. Hoyer Discusses His Pro-Business Agenda for the 109th Congress with Prince George’s County Leaders

GREENBELT, MD - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) today addressed business leaders at the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce Annual Legislative Luncheon. He spoke to the leaders about how he will be working in the 109th Congress to support policies and secure resources to make the Prince George’s community one of the most attractive in Maryland in which to live and raise a family.

Hoyer Applauds Terrorism Research Center at UM

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today congratulating the University of Maryland for being selected as the new home of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)-sponsored social and behavioral research center dedicated to reducing worldwide terrorism. The University today announced a $12-million, three-year grant to Maryland and its academic partners to establish the Center of Excellence for Behavioral and Social Research on Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism. It will join an elite network of university-based national research centers funded by the department.

Hoyer Delivers Funds for Charles Co. Minority Business Center

WALDORF, MD - Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today joined the Charles County Ministers Alliance to announce that he secured $60,000 for the Charles County Minority Business Center in the federal Omnibus Appropriations Act passed by the Congress late last year. This Center was created to foster the establishment and growth of minority-owned businesses in Charles County, offering essential tools and services to Minority Business Enterprises.

Hoyer Tours Southwinds Senior Center

CHARLES COUNTY, MD -Congressman Steny H. Hoyer Calls on President Bush to Present Alternative on Federal Employee Pay

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) today sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director Clay Johnson III offering to discuss with the Bush Administration any alternative federal employee pay proposals. Representative Hoyer was the lead sponsor of the Federal Employees Pay Comparability Act, which currently governs federal employee pay.

Hoyer Has Dinner with Maryland Troops in Iraq

BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) was part of a congressional delegation that traveled to the Middle East last week to assess ongoing preparations for the upcoming national elections in Iraq and the Palestinian Authority. Hoyer also had dinner with troops from Maryland including Spec. Ronnie Cole, from Waldorf, where he talked to them about their experience and thanked them for their service. Congressman Hoyer also spent time with Prince George’s County Delegate Anthony Brown, D-District, 25, who serves as the General Assembly's majority whip. Brown serves with the National Guard.
