Tuesday, February 01, 2005 Hoyer Urges President to Provide Sufficient Funding for U.S. Food Aid Programs
WASHINGTON, DC – Early in February, the President will send to Congress the Administration’s request for emergency appropriations to cover the cost of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and to address the catastrophic tsunami that destroyed portions of South Asia on December 26, 2004. Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in sending a letter to the President urging him to include in this package enough funding to meet the needs of U.S. food aid programs that are helping tsunami survivors in Asia without reducing the food aid resources needed in other parts of the world such as Africa.

Friday, January 28, 2005 Hoyer Praises Navy for Awarding Contract to Build VXX Presidential Helicopter Programs Facility at Pax
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today after the U.S. Navy announced that they had awarded the contract to build the VXX Presidential Helicopter Programs Support Facility at Patuxent River Naval Air Station to Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Chantilly, Virginia. Congressman Hoyer led the effort to secure the $40 million in federal funds to begin construction of the new facility to house the Marine Corps’ Presidential Helicopter Replacement Program at Pax. The Navy also announced tonight that Lockheed Martin was awarded the $1.7 billion contract to build the Presidential Helicopter.
Friday, January 28, 2005 Hoyer Visits Iraqi Polling Site in New Carrollton
NEW CARROLLTON, MD – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today after visiting the out-of-country polling site located at the Ramada Inn in New Carrollton for the Iraqi election. Registered Iraqi Americans are eligible to vote at this polling station starting today through Sunday. Hoyer was given a tour of the polling site by the International Organization of Migration who organized the election outside of Iraq and spoke to some of the Iraqi American citizens who were voting today.
Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Newburg Volunteer Fire Department To Receive Federal Grant For New Equipment
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) announced today that the Newburg Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a federal Fire Grant in the amount of $36,000 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. As co-chair of the Congressional Fire Caucus, Congressman Hoyer was very active in helping establish and fund the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, which helps local fire departments in Maryland and across the country buy equipment and provide adequate training.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today condemning reports that the Bush Administration is eliminating funds and scuttling all proposals to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble Space Telescope is managed and operated by the Goddard Space Flight Center which is located in Congressman Hoyer’s district.
