SEN. SALAZAR STATEMENT ON REDEPLOYMENT OF 8K ADD’L TROOPS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO FORT CARSON

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this morning, Senator Salazar discussed the Active Component Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Posture with Lt. Gen. David Barno, Army Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management. General Barno briefed Senator Salazar on the redeployment of the U.S. Army’s Fourth Infantry Division to Fort Carson, CO. The net result of this decision will mean an additional 8,000 troops on post at Fort Carson by 2007.

“I am pleased to learn of the Army’s decision to base the 4th ID at Fort Carson. General Barno mentioned that the strength of Fort Carson’s facilities, its recognition as a premier training post, and the strong community support for its mission all played into the Army’s decision. Like all Coloradans, I am proud that the Army entrusts us with the important responsibility of hosting our men and women in uniform and their families. I am confident we will not disappoint.

I also underscored to General Barno my continued commitment to work with the Army to ensure that these new troops – like all those who have come before them – will have the quality of life they have earned.”

Moving the 3rd ACR from Fort Carson to Fort Hood is included in this redeployment.
