SEN. SALAZAR SUPPORTS TROOP STRENGTH INCREASE LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today Senator Salazar joined with his colleagues in introducing a bill to increase the size of America’s active-duty Army by 100,000 troops.

“Since 9/11, our troops and their families have borne a heavy burden,” said Salazar. “Nearly every deployable Air Force, Army, Reserve, and National Guard unit based in Colorado has been overseas in support of our missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are proud of the job they have done. Their work has been terrific, but it has come at a great cost to them and their families.

“Increasing the size of our active-duty Army by 100,000 troops will reduce the strain placed on individual soldiers, improving the quality of their lives and their families’ lives. This will lead to more recruits and higher reenlistment. I am supporting this bill because it recognizes the new kinds of duties our military has been asked to perform, and ensures that we will maintain the capacity to defend our nation at home and abroad with the strongest military in the world.”
