Transportation
I strongly believe that a modern transportation infrastructure is essential for economic development in Western North Carolina. I was able to secure several million dollars for the Eleventh District through the recently passed Transportation Equity Act. The following projects will receive earmarked Federal funds:
*Pack Square Renovations -- $3.8 million. Money will be used to beautify and modernize the Pack Square area in Asheville. Upon completion, Pack Square will be a significant regional tourism destination used for concerts, festivals, and other community events.
*Highway 64 Improvements in Rosman -- $4.8 million. Money will be used to add passing lanes and other safety improvements to Hwy. 64.
*Highway 19 Imrovements -- $11.36 million. Money will be used to complete the rehabilitation of Hwy 19 through Jackson County by adding new safety features.
