Voting Record

How Are Our Laws Are Made?

Who Keeps Track of Votes?

The Clerk of the House of Representatives maintains a list of votes for each motion and legislation that is voted on by the full House. These are called "roll call votes." You can also track the legislative process in the House of Representatives and the US Senate by going to Thomas, a website maintained by the Library of Congress.

How can I look up a vote cast by Representative Conyers?

Simply follow the easy steps listed below to look up a vote cast by Congressman Conyers or any other member. Note: You may want to read all of the steps before clicking on the appropriate links.

Step 1

Visit the Clerk's Roll Call Vote webpage. The far left column labed "Roll" will give you the number of the roll call vote. Moving to the column on the right, you see the date the vote was cast. The "Question" tells you if the vote was on final passage, on an amendment, or as otherwise noted. The "Result" is the outcome: P=passed, F=failed, and A=the amendment was agreed to. The column that is cut off from view on the right tells you the title/descritpion of the measure. All votes are posted in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top).

Step 2

Click on the appropriate "Roll" number on the same row as the title/description that you are interested in. If it is an older vote that you are interested in (must be in the same year), move to the bottom of the screen and you will encounter a similar image as seen on the left. Simply click on a previous set of roll call votes.

Step 3

After clicking on the appropriate roll, you will be taken to this page. Scoll down to see how Congressman Conyers voted on this measure.

How can I look up votes from previous years?

Visit the Clerk's Legislative Activities webpage and select a different session of Congress in the drop down menu or click on the link entitled "Roll Call Votes of Previous Congresses."

Why doesn't the office maintain its own list of votes on this webpage?

Direct access and instructions on how to use the Clerk's records provide fast, complete and unbiased access to all votes cast by Congressman Conyers. Posting the Clerk's list of votes here would be a duplication of services readily available to the public. Additionally, it has become the practice of other offices (this office not included) to post a partial or select list of votes on their websites. Again, the Clerk's page is complete, accurace and unbaised.

What if I still can't find the information I need?

If you have trouble finding the information you need, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
