GUTIERREZ TO ADDRESS IMMIGRATION REFORM RALLY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON

Congressman to thank tens of thousands of participants for their strong support of his comprehensiveimmigration reform proposal

CHICAGO -- U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill), chair of the Democratic Caucus Immigration Task Force, will address tens of thousands of participants at an immigration reform rally on Friday afternoon.

At the rally, the Congressman will thank participants for their strong support of his comprehensive immigration reform proposal, H.R. 2330, The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, and will explain why we need real immigration reform and not more shortsighted, punitive proposals.

The Congressman introduced his immigration bill in the House with Representatives Jim Kolbe (R-Ariz.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Senators Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the Senate. The legislation is the only bicameral, bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill under consideration in the 109th Congress.

Participants are scheduled to convene at Union Park (Ashland & Lake) at noon and will march to Federal Plaza (Dearborn & Adams). The rally will be held at Federal Plaza from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
