SENATE AND HOUSE DEMOCRATS TO INTRODUCE COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM LEGISLATION
Kennedy, Menendez and Gutierrez to be joined by AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, HERE President John Wilhelm, Barnes & Noble CEO Steve Riggio at the unveiling
WASHINGTON -- Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), House Democratic Caucus Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.), chairman of the Democratic Caucus Immigration Task Force, and other House Members will join labor, business leaders, immigrants' rights and advocacy groups for a press conference to introduce a comprehensive immigration reform package.
The legislation will be unveiled on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at 11:30 a.m., on the Cannon House Office Building Terrace. (The Cannon Terrace is located outside the N.W. entrance of the Cannon House Office Building Rotunda.)
The proposal focuses on family reunification, earned legalization, backlog reduction, addressing future flows and the creation of a temporary worker program.
In conjunction with the introduction of this vital legislation, workers, advocates and religious leaders are planning press conferences and events across the country.
