NEWS
The President has declared major disasters for impacted areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is actively managing federal assistance to these affected communities in an effort to expedite response efforts and save lives.
The Department has just issued a press release outlining their activities in the region, a copy of their press release can be found here on my website.
ASSISTANCE
If you or someone you know is in the area and needs assitance the Department of Homeland Security has published a guide to help victims find help. The guide is available in English and Spanish.
VOLUNTEERS and DONATIONS
One way that you could help is volunteer.
- Voluntary organizations are seeking cash donations to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina in Gulf Coast states.
- Volunteers should not report directly to the affected areas unless directed by a voluntary agency. Self-dispatched volunteers can put themselves and others in harm's way and hamper rescue efforts.
Another way you can help is by making a donation. Those wishing to donate to the relief effort can find a list of organizations providing services in the Gulf Coast region at the FEMA website
