Boustany Announces Economic Development Grant for City of Opelousas
August 11, 2006

Lafayette, LA - U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr. today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a grant in the amount of $198,820 to the City of Opelousas.  The grant was funded through the Brownfields Economic Development Initiative Grant Program and will go towards redevelopment of the city’s historic downtown district.

“This grant provides a significant boost for economic development in the City of Opelousas,” said Boustany.  “The redevelopment of the city’s historic downtown district is a critical project, and I look forward to helping it progress in any way that I can.”

The Brownfields Economic Development Initiative (BEDI) is a key competitive grant program that HUD administers to stimulate and promote economic and community development.  BEDI is designed to assist cities with the redevelopment of abandoned, idled and underused industrial and commercial facilities.
