Boustany Announces $1.2 Million Grant for Dozier Elementary in Erath
August 7, 2006

Lafayette, LA - U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr. today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a grant in the amount of $1,215,473.82 to the Vermilion Parish School Board for costs associated with Hurricane Rita.  The funding will go towards costs the School Board incurred to restore Dozier Elementary School in Erath.

“I am happy to see this federal funding go towards reimbursing the Vermilion Parish School Board for the costs it incurred to restore the facilities at Dozier,” said Boustany.  “The teachers and students at Dozier endured tremendous sacrifices in order to get their school back up and running.”

Hurricane Rita caused severe damage to the steel framed masonry of Dozier Elementary school.  Many of the school’s buildings were inundated with 30 inches of flood water.  A total of 39,971 square feet were affected by flood waters, damaging classrooms, bathrooms, offices, as well as the school’s library, cafeteria, kitchen and multipurpose rooms.  More than 50% of the school’s campus was damaged.
